Students and faculty in Collinsville mourn longtime teacher and coach’s death
COLLINSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — Students and faculty in Collinsville are remembering a longtime teacher and coach.
“Josh Burrell, he had been here for ten years as a history teacher, he coached volleyball for nine of those years,” Collinsville Assistant Principal Jason Barnett says.
He says Burrell had an impact in the halls and the community. “He has been here for quite a while, and through that time he has built a lot of relationships with students, former students, faculty members, staff members, and they’re really feeling a great loss right now,” Barnett says.
“We got a call that he’d had a wreck, and it was a tragic accident as he was traveling in on his morning commute.”
It happened in Leesburg Thursday morning. Burrell was on his way to school.
Friday bits of memories are scattered throughout the halls, and the school held a service to just remember. “We were able to share some of the memorable moments we had with him and through that, that’ll help the healing process,” Barnett says, “It’s going to take time, we’re still grieving, and we’ll grieve for a while but that’ll help. He’ll be greatly missed by not only faculty and students but this community.”
