NEW MARKET, Ala. (WHNT) - This week's Tools for Teachers award winner and recipient of 319 dollars for classroom supplies is Chrissie Willett, a second grade teacher at Walnut Grove Elementary in New Market.  She's been teaching second grade for more than twenty years and is known around the school for the compassion and love she demonstrates to her students on a daily basis.

It was actually her heart for students that garnered Ms. Willett this nomination. Lynn Gann, a mom of four, nominated her, telling us that each of her children spent their second grade year in Ms. Willett's class, and each of them still treasure that experience.

For Ms. Willett, the mission of teaching isn't just fulfilling a set of requirements and preparing students for the third grade. She's also setting a solid foundation for a successful adulthood.

"I want them to be leaders when they leave, and to be able to take charge of themselves,"  Willett said. "Because that is our goal -- to create good citizens."

If you know a worthy teacher, coach, principal, or aide, tell us about them through the Tools for Teachers nomination form.
