DECATUR, Ala. – Decatur Police are investigating an accident where a three-year-old was hit while trying to cross the road on a scooter.

Decatur Police said the accident happened at 5:16 Wednesday evening.

Authorities say three-year-old Zamarian Mitchell was hit by an SUV while trying to cross Austin Street. Investigators say he left a private driveway on the south side of the street and attempted to cross the street on a Razor style scooter. Police say the child crossed the street as a 2003 Ford Explorer, driven by 20-year-old Austin Davis, was westbound on Austin Street.

Three-year-old Mitchell was flown to Huntsville Hospital and later transported to UAB for what officials believe are non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the SUV was not hurt.

The investigation is on-going.
