Lawrence County Superintendent hosts community information meetings about April 28 referendum
LAWRENCE COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) – Lawrence County School Superintendent Heath Grimes is inviting as many people as possible to three community meetings this week intended to answer questions about the April 28 referendum.
Grimes said he will do a presentation and then take questions from the audience about the financial impact of the property tax increase he is hoping Lawrence County residents will pass to support the school district. Lawrence County schools are facing a loss of $2.1 million.
Grimes said there is a lot of misinformation, rumors, and untruths circulating about the current status of the school district and the reasons for the money that would come from a property tax increase.
The meetings are tonight (March 23) at the Lawrence County High School at 6:00 p.m.; Tuesday (March 24) at 6:00 p.m. at Speake Elementary School; and Thursday (March 26) at 6:00 p.m. at East Lawrence High School.
