HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) -- Craft beer lovers can start foaming at the mouth.

Yellowhammer officials broke ground on their new brewing complex Friday. The local craft brewery will be joined by Earth and Stone Wood Fired Pizza in their 10,000 square foot brewery, bier garten and tasting room.

"When we started five years ago, we really had no idea that this is where it would take us," said Yellowhammer general manager Ethan Couch.

Straight to Ale already announced plans for a 40,000-square-foot brewery and taproom at the site of the former Stone Middle School. An outdoor concert amphitheater is also in the works for the new Huntsville entertainment district brewing on the west side of the city.

"You have lots of opportunities all around the neighborhood to see it grow, too," said Downtown Huntsville Inc. CEO Chad Emerson. "I think this is going to be one of the really interesting places in the next several years to be in Huntsville."

"It shows that we're a little bit different than everybody else," said Mayor Tommy Battle. "But it also shows that we have some artistic ability in this area, some creativity and you'll see that in many, many of these beers that come out of here."

Earlier this week, WHNT News 19 confirmed that several more restaurants and new retail space are also tentatively in the works for the development.
