HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) - Icy roads put a brief halt on set up for the Home, Building & Remodeling Show at the VBC South Hall Thursday. And we're not talking trifold pop-up kiosks -- these displays are massive and take tons of work to prepare.

"Exhibitors started on Monday of this week and normally this place would be abuzz with people blowin' and goin' to wrap it up. So the weather effected us a little bit but yeah, these are huge displays and it takes all week to get ready for the show to open."

Lynn Kilgore, Executive Director of the Huntsville/Madison County Builders Association, has been in charge of this little shindig for a long time -- she thought she'd be prepared for just about anything.

"I have been doing the show for 27 years and this is the first time we've ever had ice problems. Now, we have been a little hesitant and worried about tornadic activity in the past but this is a whole new game," Kilgore says.

It's been a waiting game for most participants. We found one exhibitor from Texas who was painting his company's display shed -- all alone. He says the rest of his crew was still back in the Lone Star State.

The sneak preview party Thursday night was canceled, but good news is, the show will go on.

"Now that everybody's been iced in all day Thursday -- Friday , Saturday and Sunday's going to be beautiful -- so good time to come down and think about remodeling, landscaping, building; this is where it is this weekend," Kilgore assures.

The Home, Building & Remodeling Show at the VBC South Hall will open to the public Friday at 1:00 p.m.

WHNT News 19 will have a booth inside helping visitors download and become familiar with the WHNT News 19 family of smart phone apps. We will also be helping to program weather radios that partners with Home Depot will be selling right there on site.
