DECATUR, Ala. (AP)–  Authorities say a woman found unresponsive in a recent house fire in Decatur has succumbed to her injuries.

Decatur fire officials say the woman was found without a pulse in her burning home early Friday morning, but was revived at the hospital and survived several hours before dying of smoke inhalation.

A Decatur newspaper reports that 75-year-old Mable Parker died at Parkway Medical Center shortly before 2 p.m. Friday.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Fire Marshal Jason Jones told the Decatur newspaper that investigators are focusing on an area of the den “with heavy use of electrical appliances and extension cords.”

Authorities said her death is the first fire fatality of the winter in Decatur.
