HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) - Holy line, Batman! We often bring you stories about winter weather and its negative impact on local businesses. That was definitely not the case for folks at Lewter's Hardware in Huntsville. Before the first flake even landed Wednesday dozens of people flooded the aisles all the way to back of the story trying to get winter weather essentials -- and we're not talking kerosene or tire chains.
We're not sure how so many people got notice of the expected arrival time of the delivery truck with sleds and snow boogie boards in tow, but it's certainly a study in the power of word-of-mouth.
"I came for lamp oil and wicks and I'm winding up, for my daughter, with two sleds, two balaclava and starter logs," said shopper Julia Vess.
Right on cue around 11:15 a.m. the 'sled guy' pulled up with his delivery to the screeches of local children impatiently waiting inside.
"I expected to see a line outside because it's not often we get snow around here," said dad Max Dunkerly who brought his 2 kids into Lewter's amid all the hullaballoo.
"The plan is to hopefully get two sleds if they have any left to go sledding on my parent's hill."
Lewter's shipment included sleds and snow boogie boards that ranged in price from $8 to $50, but not everyone came away with what they showed up for.
"The line is crazy -- it's all the way to the back of the store," said Lee Pugh, who brought his boys C.J. and Brody. "We said forget it, we'll just get a trash can lid."
If you're looking for sledding goodies at Lewter's, you better hurry and prepare to be patient; their shipment was going fast.
