FLORENCE, Ala. (WHNT) – We all know that law enforcement is a dangerous job.  One Tennessee Valley officer realizes that just a little more this morning.

According to the Florence Police Department’s Facebook page, an officer is recovering at home this morning after being struck and pinned by a large truck.  The accident happened just before midnight on Friday while the officer was working a wreck near the intersection of Highway 20 and County Road 14 in Florence.

The officer was assisting with a traffic crash when he became pinned between a commercial vehicle and an SUV.

Several people on the scene worked together to free the officer.  Paramedics transported the officer to the hospital where he was treated and later released.

Florence Police say they responded to more than 60 calls of wrecks and/or stalled vehicles between 8 p.m. Friday and 2 a.m. Saturday.
