DEKALB COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — Construction on a community center at High Falls should be completed in summer, officials say.

Crews started building the community center at the county park several months ago.

Commission President Ricky Harcrow said weather hampered construction some late last year, but now the project is moving ahead quickly.  The center will boast office space for county employees and space for functions.

“It’s going to be a great asset to that community and our county because of just the facilities that are there, and the usage that it’ll provide for so many functions in that area,” Harcrow said.

Officials say they expect the project to be finished by summer, if not before.  It’s a joint effort between different entities, but the DeKalb County Commission will provide the funding.

The funds will come out of a budget designated for that purpose.

The park is free to use for the public, and Harcrow says after the center is built the park will remain as such.
