HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) - On Saturday, January 3, people around the world - and here in the Tennessee Valley - will try to set a new Guinness World Record for the largest group workout.

The attempt is being sponsored by ViSalus, a health and fitness company.

For every person who participates by walking a mile, ViSalus will donate 30 meals to needy children, through its charity, Project 10 Kids.

Locally, there are three workout sites: Vortex Gym on Leeman Ferry Road in Huntsville, Hogan Family YMCA in Madison and Dublin Park, also in Madison.

There's no fee for the event and no need to pre-register. You can sign up on site.

Participants are asked to arrive at 11:45 a.m. The workout will begin at 12 p.m.

The walks are scheduled to take place outdoors. However, in case of rain, they will be moved inside to either Vortex Gym or Hogan Family YMCA. Participants at Dublin Park will be re-routed to one of these locations.

Similar workouts will be taking place in 11 countries.
