MADISON, Ala. (WHNT) - This year youngsters are taking a hip-hop class in Madison. However, they’re sharing the floor with a four-legged pup specifically there for a special student.

These little dancers are learning new moves and getting a crash course about service dogs.

While 10-year- old Zachary Harris warms up for his dance class at The Dance Company in Madison. Zachary has the confidence knowing that someone is there to help with his medical condition.

That someone is a German shepherd named Chima (CHEE-muh). Chima is in training for seizure detection because Zachary has epilepsy.

Zachary says, Chima is there to take care of him if he ever gets sick.

So far, so good… Zachary hasn’t had a seizure.  Chima is just learning how to behave wherever he has to go with his owner. Even in a class with loud music and shouting.

If everything goes as planned, Chima will be on stage when Zachary performs for his spring recital.
