FLORENCE, Ala. (WHNT) -  Getting pulled over during the holidays is enough to ruin your Christmas spirit. But this week, some officers in Florence are prepared to hand you more than a ticket.

"We thought it would be nice, especially during the holiday, to give back to the safe drivers of Florence," said Sgt. Chris Ticer with the Florence Police Department.

They're out in full force, ready to catch good, safe drivers. Officer Haynes was armed with gift cards to local restaurants Friday afternoon.

"Our traffic officers and our parking enforcement officers went out and made contact with restaurant managers and owners and asked if they wanted to be a part of this," said Sgt. Ticer. "Most of them were all about it."

These random acts of kindness are something Florence Police did a few years back. They're a way to say "thank you" to drivers who keep the roadways safe during the holiday.

"A lot of people during the holidays are very busy, running around with a hectic schedule," Ticer said about handing out gift cards. "Sometimes it helps them put a little bit more money toward the Christmas gifts."

They spent Thursday and Friday handing out gift cards, and say it was a mission accomplished.
