Decatur hunter dies after falling from tree stand in Lee County

LEE COUNTY, Ala. – A man from Decatur died after falling from his tree stand in Salem Sunday, according to the Opelika-Auburn News.

John E. Hopper, 54, was found unresponsive at the intersection of Lee Road 144 and Lee Road 140 at around 10:05 a.m. Sunday.

Authorities said they believe Hopper fell from his tree stand, approximately 25 feet in the air.

Hopper was found by his hunting partner, who went to check on him when he didn’t respond to text messages, according to the report.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office and the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources are investigating.
