BOAZ, Ala. (WHNT) -- Boaz city leaders say several new businesses are opening in the city, and others are in the works.

The city of Boaz got thousands of dollars to help improve infrastructure across the city earlier this year. The funds stem from a grant. City leaders say they had hoped that would help bring in new businesses. "The more you improve infrastructure in the city, the better that you're going to make your opportunity for recruiting business and industry," Mayor Tim Walker says.

As the projects are underway and nearly completed, several businesses are opening in Boaz. "Papa Murphy's pizza place is going to open, and Sally Beauty Supply which is opening, and those are small businesses but in this day in time the small businesses are what's going to sustain the community," Mayor Walker says.

Those businesses are just a few that will be opening soon. Mayor Walker says there are several more that are in the works. City leaders can't release the details on those just yet.

Mayor Walker says they are starting to see more success in recruiting businesses, and says it is just the beginning."So hopefully there's going to be more opportunities out there for both business and industry in this local area."

Most of these businesses will be opening up in the new year.
