HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) -- The emergency room at Crestwood Medical Center is in the middle of a massive renovation and addition as the hospital battles to keep up with an increasing number of people coming there for help.

The $5.5 million expansion will add 17 new patient rooms. Hospital officials hope it will allow them to keep patient wait times lower than the national averages.

"The volume of the emergency rooms both here in Huntsville and the surrounding area are all going up," Dr. Wayne Jones  says.

The three-phase project is more than halfway complete and hospital officials say the entire emergency department renovation will be done by mid March, 2015.
