HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - The Rocket City is preparing for a decades old tradition.

The Rocket City Marathon starts at 7:00 a.m. Saturday.

The course this year is new starting and ending at the Von Braun Center.

Organizers call it a gently rolling and fast route through historic downtown Huntsville, the Botanical Garden, and through the U.S. Space and Rocket Center.

Nearly 2,000 runners are registered for the marathon, all of the runners have worked hard to able to participate, but few have worked as hard as runner Carolyn McLaughlin.

McLaughlin lost 191 pounds her goal was to run in this race and this year, she is ready to meet the goal she set long ago. "I found just how stubborn I am and how that translates to perseverance and that is something that you must have if you run long distance," McLaughlin told WHNT News 19.

McLaughlin says she has found tremendous support from the running community and likes to tell her remarkable weight loss story and running goal to hopefully inspire other obese people to tackle their own dreams.

Registration for the race is closed.  WHNT News 19 will have in depth coverage of the race beginning Saturday evening following college football.
