HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) -- Inside the food court at the Jones Valley Target Thursday evening, local police officers passed out Teddy bears and helped kids color inside the lines.

The efforts to keep the kids busy were so their parents could go do some much needed Christmas shopping inside the store, all paid for by Huntsville/Madison County Fraternal Order of Police donations.

"Christmas Prayers with a Cop" and the FOP dedicated $2,000 for Christmas gift cards for ten needy families from Madison County.

WAY-FM Radio helped police select families based on nominations to receive the gift cards and shop for the evening while police took care of baby sitting.

This is the 11th year the event has been organized locally.

Madison County Sheriff's Office Lieutenant Donny Shaw says the entire process is very rewarding.

"We do this help out these families so they know we are here to help," says Shaw.
