Man wanted in connection with Madison County shooting now in jail

MADISON COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT)--  The man at the center of a shooting investigation in Madison County is behind bars.

Investigators  charged 29-year-old Derance Latroy Benford with  kidnapping, robbery and assault. He is being held in the Madison County Jail on a $100,000 bond.


Deputies are looking for 29-year-old Derance Latroy Benford in connection with a Madison County shooting investigation.

The shooting happened outside a Mapco gas station at the corner of Jeff Road and Capshaw Road.

Investigators say Benford fled the scene.

Sheriff's investigator Brian Chaffin says information left on their tip line lead them to Benford.

Deputies responded to the Mapco gas station December 5 at the corner of Jeff and Capshaw Roads.

Investigators say a man was shot in the leg.

The victim told deputies a friend shot him after the two started to argue while they were in a car.  The victim jumped out of the car and was taken to Huntsville Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Deputies found the car they believe was involved in the shooting a few hours later on fire on Mitchell Street just off of Balch Road.
