HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) - You don't have to look far to find people willing to part with their Iron Bowl tickets for big bucks. But no matter how badly you want to get to Bryant Denny Stadium this weekend, take a minute to make sure your purchase is legitimate.

Popular ticket marketplace Stubhub offers some protections when buying from an individual rather than an official seller. The person is not paid until the tickets are received. To prevent double-selling, electronic tickets are not issued to buyers if the seller has hard-stock tickets in hand.

When buying off of Ticketmaster, hard-stock tickets can be reissued as electronic tickets with new bar codes and the old bar codes will be canceled. However this is only for official sellers, not individuals.

A spokesman for Ticketmaster offers this tips:

  • Do not buy tickets from anyone selling them on the street or in front of the venue. If the tickets turn out to be fake or stolen, you have absolutely no recourse.
  • Do your homework before buying tickets online. Know who you are buying from.
  • Do not use cash.

It may go without saying, but you can put Craigslist tickets in the same category as on the street vendors. There is no fail-safe guarantee.

Before purchasing through an online vendor, be sure you understand what recourse your have if the deal falls through or turns out to be a scam.
