SCOTTSBORO, Ala. – Scottsboro Police said a man and woman from Tenn. were arrested Monday after an officer found meth and drug paraphernalia inside their car during a traffic stop.

It started when a Scottsboro police officer made a traffic stop in the area of Hwy 35 and Hwy 72 in Scottsboro Monday. Inside the car was Richard Jones, 35, of Henderson Tenn., Skyla Gates, 23, of Henderson Tn., and Gates’ two children, aged 4 and 3.

Police said during the stop the couple’s behavior caused the officer to become suspicious, leading the officer to investigate further. Soon, he discovered meth and a glass pipe used to smoke drugs, police said.

Both admitted they had traveled to Atlanta for the purpose of buying drugs, according to police.

Jones and Gates were arrested for possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Gates’ children were placed in the custody of DHR.
