Sheriff Elect Rick Singleton after he was elected Nov. 4

LAUDERDALE COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) –  Lauderdale County Sheriff Elect Rick Singleton selected a chief deputy Monday.

Singleton chose longtime Sheriff’s deputy Richard Richey to work by his side.

Singleton was elected November 4, and he takes office Janurary 20. After what he called ‘prayerful consideration’ of 11 candidates, Singleton said it was Richey’s diverse law enforcement experience that got him the position. Richey served the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office for 32 years.

“Chief Richey, like myself, began his law enforcement career as a reserve deputy with this department,” Singleton said.  “His most recent assignment has been as an investigator with One Place of the Shoals where he investigated domestic violence cases and worked closely with the courts, other law enforcement agencies and various crime victims service organization.”

Singleton said he looks forward to working with his chief deputy as a member of his management team.
