Valdosta Eliminates UNA in GSC Rematch

FLORENCE, Ala. (WHNT) - Aaron Pistelli kicked four field goals, including an 18-yarder with 3:19 left in the game, to lift Valdosta State to a 33-31 win over North Alabama in the first round of the NCAA Division II Playoffs at Braly Stadium.

With the win Valdosta State (9-2) advances to meet Lenoir-Rhyne in the second round, while North Alabama ends its season at 9-2.

UNA led 14-3 early before VSU took a 17-14 lead at the half. UNA then regained the lead at 28-24 with just over three minutes left in the third quarter and held on to a slim advantage until Pistelli’s game-winning kick.

The Lions had one final chance on offense after VSU took the lead but Wingo was picked off by Kenny Murphy to seal the win for the Blazers.
