Florence, Ala. - (WHNT) -- Round one of the division II playoffs is bringing a familiar foe to Florence. For the second time this season, Valdosta State is coming to Braly Municipal Stadium and the Lions hope it will be a second win for North Alabama. UNA is up three spots to number 12 this week, but rankings will not mean anything without a 4th straight first round victory. The Lions defeated the Blazers 31-29 back on Sept. 27 on a 54-yard Taylor Pontius field goal on the game's final play.
That game provides some confidence for UNA who knows plenty about the Blazer's schemes, but head coach Bobby Wallace does not think familiarity will play much of a role. "It doesn't help or hurt because we are both in the same boat. It might help in preparation because we already know their personnel."
As far as personnel goes, UNA quarterback Luke Wingo knows his team is in for another tough battle. "They are a pretty simple defense, but they're very good at it, that's the thing. Very fundamentally sound. So they know what we're going to do, and we know them but it's going to come down to who executes more."
Kickoff from Braly Municipal Stadium is Saturday at noon.
