Traffic Update: Wall Triana Bridge in Madison opens to traffic
MADISON, Ala. (WHNT) – Good news if the work on the Wall Triana bridge project has been affecting your daily commute.
The bridge has opened after being closed for several months.
The bridge is between Eastview Drive and Brownsferry Road.
Mayor Trulock says the new bridge will be safer and have a third lane for traffic.
Contractors still have final clean-up items to complete and the pavement must cure for at least two weeks prior to final striping. The city urges drivers to continue to use caution in this area because workers will be present.
Madison City Schools say they’re glad the Wall Triana bridge is fixed. It will help shorten bus routes by at least a few minutes. With Wall Triana being a main artery between the school district’s transportation depot and many Madison City Schools, 43 of the district’s 63 routes were affected.
“The detour was a small inconvenience for making a treacherous bridge safer for the motorists and school buses that use that route. We are grateful to Mayor Trulock and the City Council for making the project a priority,” said Madison City Schools Superintendent Dr. Dee Fowler.
Madison City Schools Transportation Director Bobby Jackson said the detour added about a mile and 5-7 minutes extra twice a day since the school start on Aug. 5. Bus drivers will inform students if pickup times will be a few minutes later because of the bridge re-opening, he said.
The Mill Creek Bridge Replacement on Wall Triana Highway will remain an active construction zone until the Alabama Department of Transportation completes all inspections.
