REDSTONE ARSENAL, Ala. (WHNT) – Redstone Arsenal Exchange managers unveiled the facility’s first major upgrade in more than a decade Friday morning. The grand re-opening ceremony was to celebrate six months of renovations to the Exchange resulting in an updated 65,000-square-foot facility. It features a whopping $5.4 million in improvements, including a fresh brick facade and new food court.
Inside the main store shoppers will find national brands like Michael Kors, The North Face and Ralph Lauren. The ‘Power Zone’ is stocked with the latest from Bose, Samsung and Sony. The Exchange expanded cosmetics to add a beauty bar with top-of-the-line brands such as Smashbox and Philosophy.
But the improvements are more than just a pretty face, so to speak.
“Every time you shop at the Exchange, the money you spend comes right back here in the form of dividends to support morale, recreation and wellness programs,” explained Exchange general manager Roberto Montalvo.
In fact, last year’s Exchange sales at Redstone generated more than $1.9 million for the MWR programs on post.
The store is designed for ultimate convenience for soldiers, civilian workforce, retirees and their families. Forget the commitment to providing customers with competitively priced products and the tax shopping they've come to expect -- many were there strictly for the fashions.
"I love Michael Kors so when I saw the Michael Kors I got really excited," says shopper Nicole Allison. "Vince Camuto is here, they even have the Fendi perfume and the Salvatore Ferragamo so it's really high-end. I was very shocked to see that."
The Exchange stayed open throughout renovations when construction began in March.
The Redstone Exchange employs about 200 full-time and part-time employees at the main store, its Express stores and its concessions on post. It has 63 employees working in the main store. The Exchange is operated by the Army and Air Force Exchange Service.
