COLBERT COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) – The severe storms that hit the Tennessee Valley Monday night left a mess in Muscle Shoals and caused damage throughout the county.

Trees and power lines were downed across the area and many roadways were blocked. Colbert County 911 service was down for some time, but was eventually back up and running.

Crew responded to a possible tornado that touched down at Woodward Avenue and Second Street. The Chevron gas station on the corner was hit hard.

Many power lines were down, making it difficult for crews to respond to the damage in the dark. It was also a danger to drivers, so Muscle Shoals Police blocked off Second Ave. to Sixth Street to all through traffic. Traffic lights were completely downed.

Utility crews were on scene around 8:30 p.m. to clear the mess as fast as they could and to restore power.

Police used social media to ask everyone to stay off the roads while crews try to safely respond to debris and power problems.
