FLORENCE, Ala. (WHNT) – The Florence Police Department released video of the events that unfolded when officers responded to a call regarding a man with a gun in the area of Florence Fire Station #4 on Huntsville Road Wednesday.

Police say the caller told them that the man had approached his family in their vehicle and pointed a rifle at his family.

When officers responded to the scene, they located the man at the 300 block of North Eclipse Street. This is the video captured at that scene. The raw video was captured by the in-car video systems of the responding officers.

WARNING: The video is raw and does contain vulgar language.

A Florence Police officer did fire two shots, but both of those rounds struck the pavement behind the suspect. No bystanders were injured during the encounter.

Later, as shown in video, the man was later determined to have a long cane wrapped in clothing. When asked what he was doing, the man replied that he was attempting suicide by police and that he intended for police to think that the cane was a gun.

He was transported to a local medical facility for a health and mental evaluation.
