3 injured in explosion at U.S. Steel facility in Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, AL (WIAT)– Three workers were injured in an apparent explosion at the U.S. Steel facility in Fairfield Sunday.

Officials with UAB Hospital have confirmed that the three were transported to the hospital earlier today, but did not have conditions available. Courtney Boone with U.S. Steel tells our sister station WIAT 42 News that information on the incident will be released soon.

Courtney Boone with U.S. Steel released a statement Sunday evening confirming the injuries, but did not release any details on what happened at the facility, or the identities and conditions of those injured. Boone did say that the company is conducting an investigation of the incident.
