HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) –  Saturday was a day to remember an 8-year-old boy who was struck and killed in a hit-and-run accident.

Weixi Zhang’s family and friends laid him to rest at Berryhill Funeral Home Saturday morning.  Hundreds showed up to say goodbye to the 8-year-old.

His family was well-known in the community, and Weixi had a great number of peers at school.

It was a trying week for the Zhang family, as they had to pick out a lot at the cemetery. Friends of the family are praying for their peace.

Weixi died late Sunday night after a driver hit him as well as his two sisters. They were walking home from the Meteor Buffet on Highway 72 and North Parkway.

Monday, Police arrested who they say was driving that car, LaTonya Denise Haley. She’s charged with vehicular homicide, leaving the scene, and two counts of assault. She made bond Tuesday night.

Family set up a Zhang Family Fund, accessible at any Redstone Credit Union, to aid their hospital and funeral bills.
