UPDATE: Florence Police have credit union robbery suspect in custody

FLORENCE, Ala. (WHNT) – Police have a suspect in custody in connection to the robbery at Alabama Central Credit Union on Monday.

Kevin Lavon Armstead, 22, has been arrested in connection to the robbery of Alabama Central Credit Union and the theft of an automobile from Cherry Hill Homes on Monday.

The robbery happened Monday around 11:30 a.m. at the credit union location at Rickwood Road and Bruin Drive.  Florence High School and Freshman Center were placed on precautionary lockdown while police looked for the suspect in the area.

The suspect, a black male, was wearing a blue jacket and blue hat.  Witnesses said he was about 6 feet tall with a slim build.   Police said the man stole a vehicle before robbing the bank, then drove away in the car but ditched it a short distance from the bank.
