SHEFFIELD, Ala. (WHNT) - Police have charged a man with robbery and murder after his father was found stabbed to death on Labor Day.

George Morris III was charged with robbery and murder in connection to this case Wednesday.

It started just after 10 a.m. Monday, when fire and medical personnel were called to a Sheffield home on 9th Avenue for a possible structure fire with someone trapped inside.

When they arrived, they found light smoke inside the home and a man’s body.

According to Sheffield Police Chief Greg Ray, 63-year-old George Morris Jr. was found dead with numerous stab wounds to his body.sheffield

Ray says at the same time, Tuscumbia fire fighters were called to Hardees where a man was passed out with cuts to his arms.

Chief Ray confirmed the man at Hardees was George Morris III.

The son was treated for his cuts at Helen Keller Hospital and transported to the Sheffield City Jail for questioning.

Chief Ray said investigators believe George Morris III started the fire to cover up the death of his father.

Morris III is being held in Colbert County Jail on a $255,000 bond.
