DEKALB COUNTY, Ala. – Horseback riders found a body that appears to be that of a missing man in a wooded area near Ider Sunday, according to Sheriff Jimmy Harris.

Harris says the body was found around 4:00 p.m. Sunday. He said the body will have to be positively identified by forensics, but it appears to be that of a missing white male.

The Ider Police Chief had asked the horseback riders to assist his department in searching for the missing man.

The Dekalb County Sheriffs Office responded to the scene and started processing it for evidence. The body was removed Monday morning and sent to the Alabama Department of Forensics in Huntsville.

Harris said, “We had people working all night on this case, I hope we can get a positive ID soon and follow up on some leads developed so far.”

The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office has not released the identity of the man and the investigation is ongoing.
