FLORENCE, Ala. (WHNT) – The sign says it all.  At the end of the month, the American Cancer Society will close its office at its Florence location.  The organization says the reason is  due to lack of funding, but it will continue to fight against cancer and be an active part of the Shoals community. The organization says it will continue to provide weekly meetings and programs around the shoals in different locations.

“We’ve never thought of the American Cancer Society as any particular location. Because we are everywhere. We are where our volunteers are raising money. We are volunteers are helping out patients. We are the community. And I think this just really falls in line with that,” say Community Relations Director Kevin Sims.

The organization says it will close its Florence office doors on August 29.
