FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ala. – Sheriff Shannon Oliver reports that an inmate was found dead inside the Franklin County Jail at 11:30 Tuesday morning.

Sheriff Oliver called it a “death investigation.” He believes the inmate’s death was caused by asphyxiation.

The inmate has been in the jail since Saturday for possession of a forged instrument.  Authorities are not releasing the inmate’s name, saying some family members have not been notified.

The investigation was turned over to the Alabama Bureau of Investigation and the autopsy will be done by the Alabama Department of Forensic Science.
