POLICE: Birmingham home invasion ends in shooting

Birmingham AL, (WIAT)- Police are investigating a home invasion that ended with the resident of the home shooting the intruder.

According to our sister station WIAT/CBS 42, the incident occurred around 6:00 p.m. on 6th Avenue South.  Lt. Sean Edwards states that the suspect came to the home earlier in the day, inquiring about a truck at the residence.  He left after talking with the woman who lived in the home.

He returned and approached the woman, who was outside. He then forced his way into the home, demanding money. The woman pulled a small handgun from a side pocket of her purse and shot the suspect in the hand.

The man left the scene and police are still looking for him.  The woman was not injured.
