HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – Alabama lawmakers have drafted legislation to prevent immigrant children from being placed at military bases nationwide. It comes after Governor Bentley confirmed Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery was being considered as one such location.

In  a statement to WHNT News 19, Representative Mo Brooks wrote:

“Military bases are for national security, not baby-sitting kids enticed to America by Barack Obama.  I support Congressmen Roby and Rogers’ effort to block military bases being turned into baby-sitting camps.  The best solution to the illegal alien children problem is simple and much cheaper:  fly the run-a-way children to their home countries to be reunited with their families.  Barack Obama’s plan to keep illegal alien children indefinitely in America only encourages another tsunami of illegal aliens while simultaneously breaking up families at extraordinary cost to hard-working American families.”

It is in the face of this opposition, the Alabama Coalition for Immigrant Justice is asking Alabamians and the communities surrounding Maxwell Air Force Base to welcome immigrant children with open arms.

“Regardless of cost they are children and they have to be taken care of,” said activist Kyle Tharp, a spokesman for ACIJ. “We as Americans and Alabamians can’t sit by and watch children suffer.”

Between January and July of this year, 407 immigrant children were placed with sponsors in Alabama.

The Governor of Massachusetts has said the children housed on two of the state’s military bases would not be attending public schools. Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel has also said federal funding for health care, education, and social services would be provided if children were housed in Chicago.

Still Alabama lawmakers have raised concerns about funding if the immigrant children if brought to the state.

Tharp says he understand the concerns, but Americans can’t turn their back on the children now.

“We`re first and foremost calling that the kids who do have relatives in the US are immediately reunited with their us based relatives awaiting their court date to determine their asylum status. We do believe asylum should be granted to a majority of these children, because as we’ve seen Honduras is one of the most dangerous countries on earth,” Tharp explained.

Tharp has already heard from people eager to provide resources for the children if they are brought to Alabama.

It has not been determined if any children will be housed at Maxwell Air Force Base.

the activist should be sent to Mexico with the illegal aliens! that is exactly what the are at best. they are also invading the U.S.A. SO TAKE YOUR PICK!

    • "the activist"

Terry, I just got back from vacation in Mexico and it was great! However please don’t send me there permanently, people like you make me realize that I have much more work to do here in Alabama! and Dillard, “were (sic) they belong” is with their parents, who are most likely in the United States.

      • Willie

No…Where these invading economic terrorists belong is either back in their home countries, or buried just south of the border. However, you have permission to go with them and support them if you like.

These ” children,” are older teenagers and adults. Obama is so happy with this program, that he wants to add three or four more countries and bring those ” children,” too! Not only that, but he wants us to fly down,pick-up and transport these ” children,” back to the U.S. so they don’t have to make the trip on their own. Let them file the papers, pay the fee’s, wait six month’s for word on what to do next, travel to a U.S. Embassy and pay another fee, be interviewed, take the medical exams and be tested, and then allowed LEGALLY, as I had to do for my wife. Let them, ” get in line,”

Those who think these adults and children are more deserving than other people around the world are frequently racially prejudiced. Travel to Asia or Africa and you will see that there are many desperate people far too poor to make it here, yet far more deserving of the refugee status.

Leviticus 19:33-34 When a stranger resides with you in your land, you shall not do him wrong. ‘The stranger who resides with you shall be to you as the native among you, and you shall love him as yourself, for you were aliens in the land of Egypt; I am the LORD your God.…

Say What, you cannot take Scripture out of Context to suit your Sorry Liberal Agenda! You are totally ignorant of Gods Word! You could not find John 3:16 even with the aid of a “seeing eye dog”!

Mo Brooks is right and I hope he stands up to stop this. People have already ran out of unemployment that’s why the number are dropping, not because they found jobs. Alabama can not afford this! I worked in a factory at night in Alabama and we had to be called by name to see if we could work, We was in a room with hundreds of illegals that got to work over American born workers. We would stand for a hour or so to see if we could work. We are losing our jobs because the company’s work them not because we don’t want to work.

    • Say What

Recent history proves that you are delusional! When the Republicans scared many Latinos away with their hatred filled legislation, the farmers and factories could not find enough Americans to do the work!

      • Dow

Do you know we have many that are unemployed right now? Do you also know that when people use all of the unemployment they have paid in and cant find work they are not counted? Do you also know that many company’s are closing down? What about these people and their family’s? Are we supposed to say to bad we have illegals working and we cant not hire you? For one farmers have machines that do way more work than any illegal or any one else can do for that matter. Most factories just want under the table workers so they don’t have to pay for insurance. So i’m not delusional I seen it with my own two eye’s Americans getting sent away when there is work!!! These people was driving from another state, American people car pooling just to try to work and being sent away because of illegals. People like you should just leave America if you don’t want to stand with America!!!!

  • Dow

They should be sent home asap, kids do not know what they want and we as adults should realize they should be with people of there culture learning it. We are taking in kids that do not belong to us. Besides we don’t have extra money for them to stay and we don’t need more handouts from the government to control us even more. Most of the one’s that came are old enough to work and will take more jobs from Alabama workers.

    • Sue

Exactly! That is like feeding everyone else’s kids and letting your own starve. We cannot save the world! Look around in Alabama and you will see homeless kids, starvation, lack of jobs. We are not wealthy!
