HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – A group of protestors are outside Hobby Lobby in Jones Valley today, speaking out against the recent Supreme Court ruling.

The group calls itself “Just Say No to Hobby Lobby” and is on the sidewalk outside of the shopping center along Carl T. Jones Drive.

The Supreme Court ruled June 30 that Hobby Lobby and other closely-held companies can’t be forced to cover some types of contraceptives for their employees.

Hobby Lobby and other companies had sued over the Affordable Care Act. Read more.

I wish y’all wouldn’t give these people any attention. They will accomplish NOTHING and obviously have nothing better to do with their time. Here’s a list of what protesting has accomplished in the past: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. NOTHING!!

  • Mike

When these people realize that the finding changed almost nothing and that HL employees still have access to 16 out of 20 commonly prescribed birth control methods through their employer-provided insurance policies, they’ll shut up and go home with their tails between their legs. Until then, let them yap. Nobody with any sense is listening to them.

Uneducated, you say? Not the case here, sir. And a leach? I am in no way a leach on my society, and I did my research. All of these assumptions are one reason I stood out in the heat for 2 hours today. Raise awareness, use my 1st amendment rights, and maybe, just maybe inform some people who really are not informed. Sad that people must always jump to insults if they simply don’t like another person’s views.

      • Meg

If you want to see insults, read the signs carried by your fellow protestors. Hobby Lobby is taking a stand for our Constitutional right to religious freedom, and you are choosing to insult them for it. You do have a right to free speech, though, so carry on. I drove to my nearest Hobby Lobby to express support with my wallet this week.

    • Tara

By “other commentators” I’m guessing you mean the people whose opinions differ from yours. I think I’ll go shop at Hobby Lobby now :)

    • Heather Morgan

Sexism and homophobia were even encountered while we protested. I hate that people have to assume that we don’t have jobs because we take time out of our lives to fight for the thing in which we believe. Most of the protesters there, including myself, are college educated (at least with one or more degrees) and very informed.

These must be the Pro-Choice supporters that are bored out of their mind as they wait for the new Health Care Center to open in a month or….. so they can stand outside and argue with the Pro-Life people. They are just making themselves look stupid at this point, the issue has been ruled, and that is that. The End. Go home and stop at Chick-Fil-A on the way home for a milkshake.

  • RS

So Heather – I presume you are pro-choice.
People also have a choice on where to work.
Companies – inlcuding liberal ones – also have a choice on what causes to support (i.e. Starbucks, Home Depot and Amazon heavily support Gay Pride celebrations).
If you don’t like your employer – look for another job!

  • Michael

Someone should tell these schmucks that no one took away access to their birth control. It’s just not coming from Hobby Lobby and the like.

  • Thaddeus

Makes me want to go shop at Hobby Lobby right now! I bet with all the publicity, they are getting an increase in business just like Chik-fil-A did. Good for them for standing behind what they believe! :)

  • Juan

The Liberal BUMS are just wanting someone else to pay for their “Irresponsible Behavior”! You want BC, go out and buy your own. And get a job while you’re at it!!!

  • James

It’s nice to see that not everyone in Alabama are the stereotyped rednecks most of the world believes.

  • Michael

No one took away their birth control. What Hobby Lobby rejects is likely going to be picked up by the government.

  • TruthLivesHere

As a previous commenter pointed out, they still have 16 forms of contraception available to them. But that’s not good enough for them. It’s typical liberalism : gimme, gimme, gimme and how dare you take one thing away from me, I’m entitled to this. This will probably be as about as successful as the Chick-Fil-A protests were.

  • Robby

Wait a minute! You must have accidentally forgotten to mention that there was a substantial group of Hobby Lobby supports “counter-protesting” on the other side of the street. Leave it to the liberal, biased media of this great land of freedom of speech to censor truth and leave out the full story. Well done, WHNT! Just continue feeding the machine. :)

Would YOU like to have the government tell YOU how to run YOUR business….and be threatened and face one million dollars A DA in fines, for not doing as they told you?
