DEKALB COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) -- The DeKalb County Sheriff's Office is encouraging residents to use safety practices to ensure a safe holiday.
High Falls has been a popular swimming destination for years.
The county park, located near Geraldine, sees several visitors a day, and as we celebrate our nation Friday even more people are expected to come to the falls.
"The county, they do have a guard down there, and we do have deputies that go down there during the day," DeKalb County Sheriff Jimmy Harris says.
Sheriff Harris says the guard is there all day long, and the deputies make their way down to the park during their normal patrols.
"If we hear there is going to be something out of the ordinary there, of course we would have extra patrol," Sheriff Harris says.
Sheriff Harris says right now they haven't heard of anything that would prompt that extra patrol at High Falls or other parks in the county.
Sheriff Harris says while the falls are always sought out, especially during the summer holidays, it can be dangerous.
He is asking residents to use caution so this Fourth of July is a safe one.
