CROSSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – A man and his son are charged with robbery and kidnapping after an incident in DeKalb County.

Sheriff Jimmy Harris says investigators arrested Bobby Lynn Dowdy Sr., 55, and Bobby Lynn Dowdy Jr., 35, both of Crossville.  Both were caught at a home on County Road 9 near Crossville and are accused of taking another man at gunpoint and taking his cash and other valuables while they drove around.

The man said he thought the two were going to kill him, until the Dowdys told him what he could do to ‘redeem himself’.  The victim was released, but the suspects continued to threaten him, Sheriff Harris said.

“I’m glad this didn’t turn into a homicide because after looking at the information we have now it looks like it got pretty close. I expect additional charges when this goes to the grand jury. I’m glad this young man is safe after this ordeal,” said Sheriff Harris.

Both Dowdy and his son are being held in the DeKalb County Detention Center.  They are charged with first-degree robbery and second-degree kidnapping.

The Sheriff’s Office is not releasing further details on the case right now, due to additional charges pending.
