DECATUR, Ala. – A 2-year-old boy was released Wednesday from Huntsville’s Women and Children’s Hospital where he was flown after falling down several steps, then through a guardrail landing on the concrete below. A release from Decatur Police says the child suffered only minor injuries in the fall.

The accident happened Tuesday evening on the steps leading from a second story apartment on O’Rourke Lane. A witness told WHNT News 19 the child walked from the door of the apartment and as she rushed up the stairs to stop him, fell down several steps before rolling under the wooden guardrail.

Decatur Police say their investigation revealed no criminal activity and ruled the incident an accident.

Efforts to contact the owner of the apartment building were unsuccessful Wednesday.
