Candidate qualifying opens Monday for municipal races

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – You’ve probably noticed campaign signs popping up around Huntsville and other cities for the municipal election in August.  Candidate qualifying officially began Monday.

In Huntsville, eight candidates officially filed paperwork Tuesday, according to City Clerk Treasurer Chuck Hagood:

-Mark Russell, for City Council District 2
-Beth Wilder, for City School Board District 2
-Walter H., for City Council District 3
-Jennie Robinson, for City Council District 3
-Elisa Ferrell, for District 3 School Board
-Kathie Rooker, for City School Board District 3
-Bill Kling, for City Council District 4
-Jackie Reed, for City Council District 4
-Kimberly Battle, for District 4 School Board
-Walker McGinnis, for District 4 School Board

A number of other candidates have announced their intention to run for city offices.

Candidates have until Tuesday, July 15 at 5 p.m. to qualify.  That’s also the last day to register to vote in the municipal election, which is August 26.  See more election dates on
