ARAB, Ala. (WHNT)-  It started one year ago as a way to support locally owned businesses in Arab.   12 months later, the Arab Cash Mob has been a success.

“We’ve been into 12 businesses, local businesses that we’ve supported and afterwards we go into a local diner,” says one of the organizers Dawn Sparks.  “So that’s 12 local diners that we’ve supported also.”

Sparks says that one Saturday a month about 40 people will usually gather in downtown Arab.   Only then do they find out which business will be mobbed.  And each person pledges to spend about 20 dollars.

“Our favorite part of the whole thing is when people get out of the car at the location and say I never knew this store was here.  So people are discovering new stores.  And we are getting a lot of feedback that they are getting repeat business from this.”

This coming Saturday, June 21st, people will gather to celebrate the cash mob’s one year anniversary.

“We’ve got birthday cake.  A lot of the businesses that have been mobbed have donated little door prizes that we are going to give away.  And then we will go an mob our 13th store.  Start our second year.”

Everyone will gather Saturday at 10 a.m. at the corner of Main Street and Cullman road.
