LAWRENCE COUNTY, Tenn. (WTVF) – A young boy drowned Saturday afternoon, after he fell into a creek in Lawrence County.

Officials with Lawrence County Emergency Communications said the boy, believed to be around 9-years-old, was playing near Knob Creek Road and Goslin Branch Road just before 6 p.m. when he somehow fell into the creek.

A handful of neighbors who live near Knob Creek tried everything they could on Saturday evening to save the 9-year-old, who was swept away by flood waters, but their efforts were unsuccessful.

Officials have not released the identity of the young boy.

His body was recovered around 8:30 p.m.
