HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – Thousands of runners hit the streets downtown and through nearby neighborhood for the annual Cotton Row Run on Monday.

The 10K race was at 7 a.m., then the 5K at 9 a.m. and the 1-mile fun run at 10 a.m.

Nearly 2,200 people ran the 10K — Kimuta Cheruiyot was the top finisher, with a time of 29:20.  See the 10K results.

More than 1,800 people ran the 5K race.  Josh Whitehead of Madison won the race, finishing in 16:14. He placed 9th overall in the 10K.  See the 5K results.

Several people set up a living memorial along the route.  They held large American flags and posted pictures of local service members from 11 Alabama counties who have died.

A big thank you to the volunteers, and to everyone who stood along the route, handed out water, made posters, rang bells and cheered the runners on!
