HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – Huntsville city leaders are open to ideas for developing the old Holiday Inn Select property across from Big Spring Park.

City leaders have issued a “Request for Proposal” with the idea of constructing a mixed-use development for the more than six-acre stretch of land.

“We are pleased to offer this exceptional property to the marketplace,” said Mayor Tommy Battle. “Developers from across the region are showing an increased interest in our downtown. We have built in more flexibility into the RFP to see what developers might come up with that would be an asset to the City.”

If the administration truly had a long term vision for the city and the future of the downtown area it would not limit its rfps to simply those proposals that turn downtown Huntsville into more urban development.
What should be done with the property is that it should be used to reconstitute Big Spring Park which has been reduced to a pond with a bridge by continual encroachment of commercial development.
    Just a thought
