HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) -- Despite some confusion, Hazel Green High School's Class of 2014 was allowed to honor a classmate killed in a wreck in 2012.

During Hazel Green's graduation Tuesday evening, a special tribute was made for J.R. Pinder.

Fellow students had requested a cap and gown be placed in an empty chair on stage for the graduation.  The request was originally denied, but late Tuesday, the school announced a cap and gown tribute will be allowed to be placed on the ramp used to access the stage.

Pinder was killed in a single-vehicle wreck in Meridianville in 2012. He was a sophomore at the time of his death and an active member of the school's golf team.

I am so sorry. This makes the second story of a young adult’s life cut short so tragically. I can only hope other young adult’s are seeing what could happen. I know this one happened in 2012, it’s great that his classmates are honoring him.
