Driver Rescued from Creek in Limestone County

LIMESTONE COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT ) - Authorities are on the scene of a wreck on Highway 72 West in Limestone County.

An Alabama State Trooper witnessed a driver go off the road and into Limestone Creek just before 6:00 a.m.

The driver also took out a power pole that left power lines down in the creek.

Utility crews responded to turn off the power.

The driver sat in the vehicle for about 45 minutes before being rescued.

Authorities waited to make sure the power had been shut off before attempting to pull the driver from the water.

Paramedics loaded the driver into an ambulance just after 6:30 a.m.

The driver is being taken to Huntsville Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

An HEMSI spokesman says the driver may have suffered a medical incident prior to the wreck.

The vehicle remains in the water.

Traffic is down to one lane at this time.
