MADISON, Ala. (WHNT) - We are all busy these days multitasking to get more done each day. It's important to find time for fun to maintain a balance in life.

WHNT NEWS 19 is taking action to share an idea of how to have a party for which all the favors and fun are provided to you for free.

In short, you can have fun and save money at the same time.

And we're talking about parties with a theme with goodies provided to the host in exchange for talking it up with a dozen of your friends.

A working mom in Madison, who's done it several times, shared the secret:

Kelly Hewlett adores spending time with her four-year-old, Ava, and seven-month-old, Carter.

She also enjoys outings with her friends and saving money.

Online, she found a way to do all three things for free.

"I think it's a great way to try new things and save money at the same time," said Hewlett. "I would recommend it to anybody."

Her secret is houseparty-dot-com --- a service that lets her choose the theme of a party and provides the favors for free.

Her first one promoted Redbook.

"So me and 15 of my closest friends got subscriptions to redbook magazine," she said. "They also partnered with revlon, and gave us all the newest mascaras, the newest lipsticks with that party as well. It was a really fun one."

Hewlett said Houseparty-dot-com operates off of word-of-mouth marketing.

Subscribers agree to talk about the products on social media and distribute the items the sponsor sends to them.

"The latest one I got a the new Veggietails movie, which my daughter really loved, so we got the movie before it was released, lots of really good masks and toys and things."

She also did a potty-training party, which came with DVDs for her to pass out to other parents; another one was with Glade air freshener; and another with Yellowtail wine.

"Yellowtail had a new Moscato that they were launching," she said. "Due to laws and whatnot, they didn't send me the wine, but they sent me a $25 American Express gift card to go purchase the wine for my party. They gave us glasses, cork screws and wine-flavored lip gloss.

Again -- no joke, no cost.

Hewlett added the latest party available gave away a $250 Margaritaville mixer.

But she didn't email back to them quick enough to qualify for that party. A tough lesson learned for Hewlett, but there are more interesting promotions available for those who sign up.
