MADISON, Ala. (WHNT) —  As storms rolled through, lots of people crowded together to enjoy music, inspiration, and community connections in Madison.

And that was part of Sasha’s Last Wish — to raise money for animals. The 9 year old from Athens passed away Sunday morning, losing a battle with cancer of her muscles.

Today, her parents and friends held Sasha’s funeral in Rogersville and then saw to it that “Taking Care of Paws – Sasha’s Way” was a success.

Sasha loved animals and wanted to raise money to pay medical bills for animals that need care due to abuse, neglect, or injury. Her parents insisted the success of tonight’s event at the Station Bar and Grill brought comfort to them.

Since organizers announced the event, they say people have donated more than $10,000 to the cause from all over the country. The funds will be dispersed among several rescue organizations and shelters, as Sasha would have wanted.

Sasha was a student at Piney Chapel Elementary School.

Truly they’re are angels among us and Sasha was one of them. Although I never meet this little girl with such a big heart she is an inspiration to me.

How often do you hear of any child asking friends and family to forgo her birthday gift and instead buy food for animals living in shelters? Sasha did this even through her battle with cancer, Heaven holds this precious little angel now. She is probably smiling. surrounded by loving cats and dogs.

Those of us still here will continue to support Sasha’s last wish; to take care of paws. The ladies who worked so diligently to put this fundraiser together should be very proud of what they have accomplished. It was a job well done on a very sad day.
